We don't know much about Steam and controllers as this is the only game we play. I remember this was very tricky to work around in Trine 2 too, but we finally got it to work so I do hope to make it work again this time. I would need separate buttons assigned for character movement and aiming (shield, arrow, cursor) to be able to play. I can assign buttons to actions but can not change directions (character and cursor movement functions). Thank you for your reply! Changing some things in Steam I was able to enter into the Trine 4 menue with gamepad and change gamepad button configuration. This should work with most controllers that are supported by Steam. Then, go to Library > Trine 4 > Manage Game > Controller Configuration. To do this, make sure all controllers you want to use are connected to your PC, then launch Steam in Big Picture Mode (it's the white icon with two arrows in the Steam toolbar). If you can't configure them from the Options menu, you can do it manually via Steam. If you're using some other type of controller it's likely that configuring the controller buttons doesn't work directly from the Options menu. Xbox 360, Xbox One and similar, compatible controllers.

This only applies to the supported controllers, however: Trine 4 only supports X-input controllers natively, ie. You should be able to change the keybinds from Options > Controller Key Mapping, but the controller usually has to be connected to the PC before launching the game, otherwise it might only shows configurations for the keyboard and mouse.
